Self-Advocacy Skills Training
Learning self-advocacy can make a world of difference in Persons with Learning Disabilities to:
- Gain more self confidence
- Self-Determination
- Learn to speak up
- Learn to be responsible and take better control of their lives
- Able to integrate into the community
United Voice conducts self-advocacy skills training for members, other self-advocacy groups and Pusat Pemulihan Dalam Komuniti (PDKs) in Malaysia.

Re-Energised! Social Thinking Transition Training
Members will learn how to understand themselves, understand perspective of others and relate to others. Training will be conducted through experiential learning and group learning. The training is conducted twice a week for 3-6 months (maximum of 12 months) in view for employment with job coach support. A 6-month review would be conducted to chart the next cause of recommendation for employment or otherwise specified.

Employment Support
United Voice helps in sourcing employment for persons with learning disabilities. We contact companies to find employment opportunities for those who are unemployed. Under this program United Voice will provide Vocational Training and Job Coach Support to members who are ready to work in the open employment.
Job Coach provides job matching and support for members in finding sustainable employment by:
– Consulting with employers
– Finding suitable employment
– Support during employment
During employment, United Voice encourages members to keep their membership and be active in our pre-planned activities, i.e. monthly social meetings and yearly outings. Keeping friendship is equally important for our members who are in the open employment.
Self Employment/Small Business Setup Program
Self-employment can be a great way for people to use their skills and talents to create employment and have more control over their working lives.
People with learning disabilities have significantly less opportunities compared with other people to get a job in the open employment. Hence, entrepreneurship and self-employment might offer the only opportunity to participate in the labour market, improved income and living standard. Another advantage of self-employment for those with disabilities is that it provides a better working life through more flexibility in work pacing, working hours and location of work.

Some barriers that Person with Disability(PWD) might face include:
- Lack of confidence
- Limited aspirations(goals, direction),
- the “benefits” trap (a fear, based on incomplete awareness of eligibility for benefits, of losing the security of regular benefit income when other income is generated),
- Lack of relevant business knowledge and skills,
- Access to start-up capital,
- Discrimination,
- Increased labor costs, lack of appropriate business support services)
United Voice has setup a program for members who aspire to setup their own business to overcome the above mentioned difficulties.
Our aim is to provide support to:
- Improve the confidence and skills level
- Provide appropriate information that could help to overcome all the difficulties.
Support from United Voice:
- Job Coach – Job Coaches to guide and support through the process
- Guides – A set of Easy Read Guides to guide our members in the process of setting up a business
